Girl in the wind. Strands of hair wipe her face. Like there was no tomorrow. Girl in the wind. Stopping. Believing, in make belief. Living a night or two. In closed rooms. Away, in closed rooms. No dreams. A regretful past. Fleeting present. Like worthless. No tomorrow. Just tonite. Just she. Only I.

Stranger man. Forgotten romance. A drowned city. Knee deep in sorrow. And a love that wouldn't be. Broken promises, heart torn apart. Holding hands. No glances shared or love exchanged. A night like it never lived. A night like it was the only one. Ever. Soaked in tears and rain. In redemption, and with the hopes of many many regrets to come. With the girl in the wind.

No pictures. None. Bonds neither. Quest for freedom. Quest for love. Search for the unknown. Probably. The power of not knowing. An intoxication of uncertainty. The gutlessness of flowing. As is expected. Bowing down. Numbness. Dearth. Dearth of life in life.

Hollow shells. Hanging in mid air. Creaking noises. Discarded fates, alongside hollow shells. Swallowing darkness. Swaying by thin strands of thread. Hollow shells. And discarded fates. Like dead lovers. Like wishes that were.

Like him & I. Like only I. And the him I assumed existed. Never did. Never did.

Words are torn, words are shorn,
Words in torrents, words of rain,
Words flying in the color of grain,
Words I tender, words of surrender,
Words of winds, words of colors,
Words of children, spoken by mothers,
Words are worlds, words are sands,
Before the silence, before my dance,
Words are wrought in a world forgot!

A montage, enliven a life, fools that we remain, we kiss to make up, for in eternity, we find enough time to look back, ever so conscious of the impending joys or joyless; lest the ones behind cradle in forgotten graves;

Lets leave a stone, in memory, of every place we laughed.

To my spiritual equivalent, the night, the time of clamoring, and quenching thirst, thirst left in the safety of thy darkness, and eyes, full of life, full of wine, is it me, or is the city drunk, forever floating into the backlit roads; Is it the monument, or a tomb, enshrined by the living dead?

Stand straight, let the rain in ; a wetness, of beauty, and the defiant lights; a few pages of my diary, now banish, the reality of my life into the illumination of a fantasy, I see clearly, through the hazes, the silhouette of my naked lover. Untouched.

'Aakhir-e-shab' is the end of the night, just before dawn; 'hamsafar' means companions on a journey, 'saba' is the sweet and soft breeze and 'subah' is morning.

I hope this will help you in responding to this couplet.

I am translating the ghazal of Faiz in which this couplet occurs; shall post it on my blog soon. To visit click; www.hamidcauldron.blogspot.com

Geeli mitti ki kushboo ne kuch yaad dilaya hoga,
Ab unn ke chaman me bhi bahaar aya hoga,
Badnaam hi sahi, iss raat ko ruk jaane do,
Andhero me kisi ne chirag-e-ishq bhi jalaya hoga ..

I have visited your blog before. I just cant stand poetry anymore, I just talk even the expression has stopped now :)

@Surya Prakash V, perhaps this is just a phase; after writing 4 lines of poetry, you have stated that you can't stand poetry anymore. Poetry is like your lost love, you just can't get over it; keeps coming back to you when you least expect or want it to.As far as talking is concerned, I am reminded of a couplet of 'Aatish':
Ye arzoo thi tujhe gul ke rubaru karte/
Hum aur bulbul-e-betaab guftugu karte.

There is no more dichotomy in anything I do and say Hamid.

If it comes, it comes like everything else and goes likewise, I experience no loss or gain in the process.

I presume you like the finer things of life :)

@ Surya Prakash V, what you have written about yourself reminds me of what Hamlet says to Horatio:
"for thou hast been
As one, in suffering all, that suffers nothing,
A man that fortune's buffets and rewards
Hast ta'en with equal thanks."
............"Give me that man
That is not passion's slave, and I will wear him
In my heart's core...."

I must envy you, as I am "passion's slave" like Hamlet. Even at 57, I'm still sentimental; I even get tears in my eyes listening to some Hindi film songs esp. those having associations. I have tried a lot to control this stupid sentimentalism so that people don't take advantage of me; but I have not been able to get it out of my system--as the saying goes "There's no fool like an old fool".
But it appears you have been able to conquer sentiments, even though you are much much younger.
